Frequently Asked Questions

What is the YouTube Trends Dashboard?

The YouTube Trends Dashboard tracks the top 200 trending YouTube videos daily, organized by niche. It surfaces velocity scores (views per hour), category trends with week-over-week shifts, and rising creators who break into trending with smaller channels.

How is velocity calculated?

Velocity measures how fast a video is gaining views. We compare daily snapshots to compute 24-hour view deltas. A velocity of 100K+/hr is 'HOT', 10K+/hr is 'FAST', and 2K+/hr is 'STEADY'. This is more accurate than lifetime averages because it captures current momentum.

What are the niche filters?

You can filter trending data by niche: AI & Tech, Finance, Gaming, Entertainment, or Music. Each niche maps to specific YouTube category IDs. The 'All' filter shows all categories. This helps you focus on trends relevant to your content.

What counts as a rising creator?

Rising creators are channels with fewer than 500K subscribers that appear in YouTube's top 200 trending. These are breakout moments where smaller creators compete with major channels. We track trending appearances over 30 days to identify these patterns.

How often is the data updated?

We collect the top 200 trending videos daily and take snapshots of view counts, likes, and comments. Category trends show week-over-week changes so you can spot which content types are gaining or losing momentum.

What are the 'Coming Soon' tabs?

Engagement Leaderboard, Rising Keywords, and Format Trends are currently collecting data. Engagement rankings need multiple daily snapshots. Keywords track YouTube autocomplete changes. Format Trends analyze which video lengths perform best. These will go live as we accumulate enough data.
